Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev secured his first trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks his first championship since the Rome competition and first on a hard surface from that period of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to wonder if his ability to play at the elite level was finished.

But the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to advance forward and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the last five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour title, took control to create a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early break points in a close final set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he secured the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
