The accused confessed to 17 criminal counts at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week

A person who laced treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a summer program in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two boys who were nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on recently.

Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The accused was held in detention ahead of a further hearing on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.

She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.

The man played a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.

The prosecutor continued: "This year his stepson had concerns about the activities, justifiably.

"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC explained materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She explained the man went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that evening - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that time," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating the police response of the incident.

Mrs Prior explained the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member notified the authorities once more.

She explained the defendant then engaged in the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
